English Pre-Intermediate 1
Course information
The course English Pre-Intermediate 1 is suitable for students with a basic knowledge of reading, writing, speaking and listening in English. You should be familiar with basic grammar such as the simple present and simple past tenses, and be able to provide straightforward information about the present, past and future.
During English Pre-Intermediate 1, you will extend your active vocabulary skills further. This will equip you to take part in conversations with increasing ease, even without preparation (for example, when someone asks you for information or when sales staff talk to you in a shop).
The course covers topics such as work, travel, money and tourism. On completion of English Pre-Intermediate 1, you will be able, for example, to read about a vacancy and apply for the job (write an application letter and CV). You will also be able not only to understand television programmes and online articles about familiar topics, including those given above, but will also have the ability to talk and write about them.
Grammar covered includes the use of the present perfect tense with just, already and yet (I’ve already spent my salary), and the use of the modal auxiliary verbs must, have and can (you must switch off the light).
