English Upper Intermediate 2
Course information
The language course English Upper Intermediate 2 is suitable for students with reasonably advanced knowledge of English. For example, you should be able to participate in a conversation without much difficulty and be able to easily read news reports, articles and blog entries.
This course focuses on reading, writing, speaking and listening. Grammar and vocabulary are also addressed as components of these skills.
After this course, you will be able to speak easily and freely about a variety of topics. You will understand nearly all of what is discussed in an informal conversation, and you will be able to state your opinion, for example on financial matters or moral dilemmas, with ease. You will also be able to start a fluent conversation about your field of work.
During English Upper Intermediate 2, you will learn to read and understand texts on diverse topics with ease. When reading something about an unfamiliar topic (for example technical or academic), you will be able to use an online translation program or dictionary to understand the main points. You will also learn how to write a structured essay, travel blog, formal email or review.
The grammar covered in this course includes the composition of more complex sentences using passive forms (those languages are spoken) and causative structures (I’m getting my hair cut).
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, online testAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the English Upper Intermediate 1 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
