Improve your language skills
Your reading skills will be improved by learning how to skim and scan and how to recognise the opinion and attitude of a writer. You will also learn how to structure an essay and how to formulate arguments so you will be fully prepared for the writing exam. Speaking and listening will be dealt with by interactive role play and by practising listening exams.
About IELTS
IELTS assesses your abilities in four skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking). There are two versions of the IELTS test, the academic module and the general module. The listening and speaking tests are the same in both modules, but the reading and writing tests differ. The Academic IELTS module is very demanding and an active command of academic English at an advanced level is necessary.
What score do I need?
Different educational institutes have different admission requirements regarding the English-language skills of students. You can check with the university you wish to apply for which IELTS score they expect from you. To get most out of this IELTS preparation course, it’s good to know what score you need before you start the course.
If IELTS is required for university entrance, early preparation is advised. There are only a few IELTS examination centres in the Netherlands and exam dates are limited, especially during the busy summer months. To find out more about IELTS, visit takeielts.britishcouncil.org.
Please note: This course is not intended to improve your level of English. The purpose of this course is to train you to sit the IELTS exam successfully. If your current language level is lower than B2, we advise you to take a general English course first. If your language level is B2 or higher we advise you to take English Academic Writing first, because this will likely result in a significantly higher IELTS score.
For this course a CD/DVD player is necessary for home study.
