Course information
Japanese level 5 is intended for students with an intermediate knowledge of the Japanese language. To take this course you should already be able to read Japanese texts on familiar everyday topics in various styles of writing, as well as being able to conduct a simple conversation with other Japanese speakers This course is also suitable for you if you have successfully completed the course JLPT N5.
After this course you will be able to understand and speak Japanese reasonably well, provided the other person speaks slowly and clearly. You will be able to make suggestions and give advice and discuss an experience or event, such as your plans for the weekend.
During Japanese Level 5 you will learn around 150 new words, so by the end of the course you will know around 800 Japanese words. . You can learn 50 new Kanji characters (200 in total) through self-study. Your teacher will be happy to provide you with the information needed to support your efforts.
Grammar covered in this course includes various verb forms, including verbs you can use when giving or receiving something (あげる、くれる、もらう) and verbs that indicate your relationship to another person. You will also learn how to use counters for indicating numbers (一さつ、一ぴき、一本、一だい). In Japanese, the counter you use depends on what you are counting, for example objects, means of transport, people, animals and abstract concepts.
The final level of this course is equal to one quarter of Level N4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
