Russian level 12
Course information
Upon completing the Russian level 12 course, you will have a thorough and complete knowledge of basic Russian. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:
- conduct a conversation on renting a house
- talk about your house and special features of houses in your own country
- write a personal letter about the health of your family
Who is it for?
This general language training course is designed for those students who have advanced knowledge of the Russian language.
What will you learn?
During this course, you will increasingly expand your active language skills. The primary aim of this course is to develop your Russian proficiency, building on your existing knowledge, so that you can express ideas and viewpoints in Russian with reasonable confidence and accuracy, both orally and in writing.
After this course you will have expanded your vocabulary with regard to health, housing and housekeeping, so you can write a personal letter with details about the health of members of your family for example, or, with the help of the newly revisited vocabulary, you can talk about health problems. You will also be able to write an advertisement for renting a house.
You will understand the core meaning of an audio text and be able to extract relevant information. When reading short and medium-length texts on topics covered in class, you will understand most of the information and you will develop the skill to understand the meaning of new words based on the context and your knowledge of how words are formed in Russian.
And grammar?
The grammar you learn or revisit during this course includes:
- distinguishing between some tricky usages of verbs in the same semantic group (болеть; лечить(ся) –вылечить(ся); выздоравливать –выздороветь; платить –залпатить; оплачивать –оплатить; привыкать –привыкнуть; гореть –сгореть and others)
- converting direct speech into indirect speech
- the use of verbs of motion
- the use of forms of aspect in the imperative
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, questionnaireAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the Russian level 11 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
