Russian level 14
Course information
Upon completing the Russian level 14 course, you will have a comprehensive knowledge of the Russian language. You will be able to perform complex communicative tasks, such as:
- expressing and defending your opinion
- discussing a range of topics and substantiating your point of view
- taking part in discussions based on a themed vocabulary that was studied earlier and has now been revisited
Who is it for?
Russian level 14 is intended for students who already have well-advanced knowledge of Russian. Students should be familiar with the advanced aspects of Russian grammar and should have a broad and active vocabulary.
What will you learn?
This language course will improve your general language proficiency (reading, writing, speaking and listening), but is primarily focused on increasing your vocabulary and on active speaking and writing. By the end of the course you will be able to write an essay based on texts you have read, for example a news article or an analysis of historic events and you will be able to give an oral presentation in which you summarise well-known facts and your own point of view. You will also be able to extract the essence of texts on topics covered in class and find specific information in them relating to art and culture, the environment and ecology, natural and other types of disasters, crime reports and sports. While listening you will be able to identify important arguments, details, key words, examples and specific information such as dates, numbers, proper nouns and geographical names.
And grammar?
Upon successful completion of Russian Level 14, you will have mastered advanced grammar skills. Grammatical topics revisited in the course include:
- converting direct speech into indirect speech
- the use of verbs of motion
- the use of forms of aspect in the imperative
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, questionnaireAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the Russian level 13 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
