Russian level 8
Course information
Upon completing the Russian level 8 course, you will have a thorough and complete knowledge of basic Russian. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:
- understand most of the information when reading short and medium-length texts on topics covered in class
- write extensive sentences on topics covered in class
- understand passive constructions
Who is it for?
This general language training course is designed for those students who have intermediate knowledge of the Russian language.
What will you learn?
During this course, you will increasingly expand your active language skills. The primary focus of the course is an expansion of your proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Russian.
After this course you will have expanded your vocabulary with regard to world problems, the environment, space travel, housing, problems faced by children and adolescents, languages of the world, the economy and the standard of living. You will be able to conduct a conversation on the interior of a house and make your preferences known. You will also be able to prepare an oral presentation in which you tell about an experience, preference or point of view (for example on the environment, parenting, the economy and the standard of living).
And grammar?
The grammar you learn during this course includes:
- distinguishing between some tricky usages of verbs in the same semantic group (класть, ставить, вешать)
- the particular use of negative constructions with не- and ни-, the pronouns все, всё and друг друга
- making active use of clauses with the conjunctions если and ли and sentences in the subjunctive (with если бы)
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, questionnaireAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the Russian level 7 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
