Swedish level 4
Course information
Upon completing the Swedish level 4 course, you will have a thorough and complete knowledge of basic Swedish. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:
- follow radio and TV programmes on current affairs
- comprehend texts which are comprised mainly of everyday or work-related language
- write about your experiences and events, dreams, expectations and ambitions
Who is it for?
This intermediate course is intended for students who have a reasonable knowledge of the Swedish language. During this course, you will further expand your active language skills.
What will you learn?
The overall aim of the course is to improve your proficiency in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Swedish.
By the end of this course, you will be able to comprehend important information when it is clearly spoken in standard dialect and concerns familiar topics. You will comprehend the content of many programmes on the radio and TV on current affairs or on topics of personal or work-related interest, provided the speaker talks fairly slowly and clearly. You will comprehend texts which are comprised mainly of everyday or work-related language, such as a text from a textbook, on an internet forum or a work-related email. Among other things, you will be able to write a personal letter or email or a short and well-argumented text, and take part in a discussion on familiar topics, such as family, hobbies, work, travel and current affairs. You will also be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, expectations and ambitions, express your opinion and plans, tell the plot or give a summary of a book or film, and take part in discussions on familiar topics without preparation.
And grammar?
The grammar you learn during this course includes:
- adverbs and adjectives
- prepositions of time
- the conditionalis
- the reflexive pronoun
- word order in main clauses and subordinate clauses
- indirect speech
- coordinating and subordinating conjunctions
- relative pronouns
- verbs (all groups and tenses; the present participle)
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interviewAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the Swedish level 3 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
