UvA Talen translates Young Rembrandt

UvA Talen regularly provides translations for a large number of museums. In January 2019 our translation team started work on texts for the Young Rembrandt/Jonge Rembrandt exhibition for Museum De Lakenhal in Leiden and the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford.

Young Rembrandt

The year 2019 marked the 350th anniversary of the death of Rembrandt van Rijn, and in this special Rembrandt Year many museums celebrated the life and work of this famous artist. Museum De Lakenhal and the Ashmolean Museum joined forces to work on a special exhibition covering the years 1624 to 1634, the first ten years of Rembrandt's career as an artist. The work featured in the exhibition shows the artist's enormous talent and how his painting skills developed.

Editing the exhibition catalogue

UvA Talen was responsible for editing the Young Rembrandt exhibition catalogue. Besides descriptions of his art, the catalogue contains four essays by prominent art historians about Rembrandt’s time in Leiden. It was here that the foundation was laid for the artist's later, world-famous work. Our editors worked on English, Dutch and German texts.

Challenging translations

All the texts were also translated into Dutch and English. This was a challenging assignment that our editing and translating team tackled with boundless enthusiasm. Rembrandt is arguably the Netherland's most important artist, so our translators and editors worked hard to ensure that the exhibition catalogue did proper justice to the greatness of this master painter.
