  • give a summary of a book or film

Who is it for?

This general language training course is designed for those students who have intermediate knowledge of the Swedish language.

What will you learn?

During this course, you will increasingly expand your active language skills. The primary focus of the course is an expansion of your standard speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in Swedish.

By the end of this course, you will be able to comprehend important information when it is clearly spoken in standard dialect and concerns familiar topics. You will comprehend the content of many programmes on the radio and TV on current affairs or on topics of personal or work-related interest, provided the speaker talks fairly slowly and clearly. You will comprehend texts which are comprised mainly of everyday or work-related language, such as a text from a textbook, on an internet forum or a work-related email. You will be able to write a simple and coherent text on general topics or a personal letter or email containing your own experiences and impressions. You will be able to take part in a discussion on familiar topics such as family, hobbies, work, travel and current affairs. You will also be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, expectations and ambitions, express your opinion and plans, tell the plot or give a summary of a book or film, and take part in discussions on familiar topics without preparation.

And grammar?

The grammar you learn during this course includes:

  • the perfekt particip (the past participle, but not supinum)
  • the tempusharmoni
  • relative clauses (subordinate clauses that begin with relative pronouns or adverbs)
  • time expressions
  • the verbs tycka, tänka and tro
  • the superlative (definite form)
  • the passive form (S-passive)
