Japanese level 8
Course information
The Japanese level 8 course is intended for students with an intermediate knowledge of the Japanese language. To take this course, you should be able to ask someone for a favour and to give advice. You should also be able to use auxiliary verbs and form passive sentences.
Once you have completed this course you will be able to express expectations and make comparisons. You will be familiar with all forms of courtesies and know when and how to use them. During Japanese level 8 you will learn more about the most respectful and humble honorific, keigo ( 敬語).
During this course you will learn around 150 new words, so by the end of the course you will know around 1,250 Japanese words. You can learn 30 new Kanji characters (330 in total) through self-study. Your teacher will be happy to provide you with the information needed to support your efforts.
The grammar taught in Japanese Level 8 includes suitable verb forms for keigo (いく、来る(=まいる、食べる、飲む=いただく), causative constructions (食べさせる、行かせる) and passive causative constructions (食べさせられる、行かされる).
The end level of this course is equal to level N4 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT).
Assessment
The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interviewAfter you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure. If you have completed the Japanese level 7 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.
