Russian level 11

Course information

Upon completing the Russian level 11 course, you will have a thorough and complete knowledge of basic Russian. After this course you will, among other things, be able to:

  • write down the recipe for your favourite dish
  • conduct a conversation on someone's biography, character and appearance
  • respond tactfully to problems at the table (you don't like the food, you are allergic to something you have been given, etc.)

Who is it for?

This general language training course is designed for those students who have advanced knowledge of the Russian language.

What will you learn?

During this course, you will increasingly expand your active language skills. The primary aim of this course is to develop your Russian proficiency, building on your existing knowledge, so that you can express ideas and viewpoints in Russian with reasonable confidence and accuracy, both orally and in writing.

After this course you will have expanded your vocabulary with regard to describing someone's appearance and character, for example for a dating website. You can use the new words you have learned with regard to food to talk about your favourite dish and how to prepare it and you can write down a recipe of your favourite dish. If you are given something to eat that you don't like or are allergic to, you are able to respond tactfully. You will also develop the skill to understand the meaning of new words based on the context and your knowledge of how words are formed in Russian.

And grammar?

The grammar you learn during this course includes:

  • forming and using the short form of adjectives and the syntactic reasons for using the short form of the adjective
  • the particular formation and use of active and passive participles in the present and past tense, and actively using them
  • distinguishing between some tricky usage of verbs in the same semantic group (стоять; ставить –поставить; оставаться –остаться; оставлять –оставить)
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate showing the level you have attained and you will be able to continue to Russian level 12.

Assessment

The intake procedure for this course comprises: intake interview, questionnaire

After you have registered for this course, we will invite you for an assessment to determine your level. We recommend that you enrol at least two weeks before the start of the course. If you enrol later than this, we cannot guarantee there will be time for the intake procedure.

If you have completed the Russian level 10 course at UvA Talen, an assessment will not be necessary.

The course material is not included in the course price. If you choose to follow lessons in class, you can buy your books through us. You then receive them during the first lesson. If you are going to take an online course, you will buy the books yourself.
