Italian level 10
Course information
Italian level 10 is a course for very advanced students. Designed to deepen your language skills, this course is suitable for you if you can speak fluent Italian, write different types of texts and have an extensive passive knowledge of Italian.
After this course, thanks to the task-based approach taken in the book, you will be able to express yourself even more easily at a high level in Italian. You will further improve your reading skills by reading texts on topics such as music, fashion and trends, lyric opera, society, statistics and developmental aspects of the Italian language.
The written exercises, which cover both descriptive and narrative aspects, focus on creating long, complex texts, enriched with ‘segnali discorsivi’ and drawing on the specific idiom of the topic at hand: music, fashion and trends, society and language-learning. The oral aspects include word games and idiomatic expressions derived from sign language. You advance hypotheses and emphasise elements in an argument. You describe music genres and individuals with reference to style, and discuss factual relationships to language learning. You are also expected to be able to identify the key points of an interview about the social situation of women in Italy.
The grammar will focus on gaining an understanding of certain formally incorrect forms of everyday Italian speech. The pronouns ‘chi’, ‘quanto’, ‘che’, ‘da’ and ‘per’ are discussed as well as language and style variants in conditional sentences. The use of ‘segnali discorsivi’ and ‘discorso indiretto’ will be discussed in greater detail. The course will also cover idiomatic superlatives.
