New language courses in 2020
There is a growing demand for language courses, so we are constantly adding to the number of courses we offer. We often receive requests for a language course at a particular level, or a course that deals with a specific aspect of a language and we do our best to respond to this. And sometimes one of our teachers or course coordinators comes up with a good idea for a new course. We try to facilitate this too!
This year we will be adding the following courses to our range:
Cambridge exam training
We already offered exam training for the Cambridge C2 Proficiency exam and now we have added training courses for the B2 First exam and the C1 Advanced exam. These exams are popular because passing them demonstrates that your English is good enough to study at a foreign university.
In addition to the four individual language skills for the examination (reading, writing, speaking, listening), you will also learn general examination skills. More information about our Cambridge B2 First exam training and Cambridge C1 Advanced exam training.
New French teaching method
Mais oui ! For years our French courses have been a permanent part of our programme. This year we have not added any new French courses, but we have changed the content of the existing courses. In the French courses levels 1 to 6 we will be using Défi, a modern teaching method with lots of online practice material. We will also be spending more hours on each level, so that you have enough time to build a solid foundation. Quelle bonne idée ! Read more about our new French courses here.
Brazilian Portuguese
By popular request you can now choose between two varieties of Portuguese: European and Brazilian. Up to now our Portuguese courses covered both varieties. However, in order to spend more time on pronunciation and vocabulary, the two elements in which European and Brazilian Portuguese differ the most, we have decided to offer separate courses for each variety. You can choose! More information about our European Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese courses.
Japanese level 5 to 8
UvA Talen first started offering Japanese courses three years ago. This language has proved so popular that we now offer Japanese courses at eight different levels. You can also prepare for the JLPT N5 exam with our exam training course. Keep an eye on our website for more new Japanese courses!
Additional intensive Dutch courses
Up to now our most popular course, Dutch Beginners 1+2 (intensive) was only available in the mornings. From 2020 we will also be offering this as an afternoon course. The lessons are held from 16.00 to 18.30 and start 12 times a year! You can also opt for our less intensive course, Dutch Beginners 1+2, in which you have lessons three times a week.
English courses at the weekend
From February 2020, UvA Talen is offering English courses at the weekend. The weekend courses are at different levels and start twice a year, in February and September: perfect for you if you want to learn English alongside your job or study! We are starting by offering our most popular English courses at the weekend: English Pre-Intermediate 1 to English Upper Intermediate 2.
We will be adding to our weekend courses as the year progresses; our plans include Arabic, Russian and Japanese. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for all the updates. Are you looking for a language course that we don't offer yet? We'd love to hear from you!
